Last month, <a href=

Last month, we misspelled the name of ex-Marine and Iraq war veteran George Wiater, 34, (posing with his two kids Maddie, left, and Noah in east Portland). Sorry, George! He lost 90 percent of his vision—most of it central, leaving only slight peripheral vision—as a result of chemical burn damage to his optic nerves when a 55-gallon drum of diesel backfired while under enemy attack.

The Mid-county Memo strives to be accurate and thorough in its coverage and corrects significant errors of fact. If you find an error, please call 503-287-8904 or e-mail department editor Darlene Vinson at editor@midountymemo.com.

In last month’s “Incorrectly oriented markers dangerous to the blind” MCM November 2015, we spelled George Wiater’s name wrong. In addition, we said he had two “young daughters.” He doesn’t; he has one daughter, 12-year-old Maddie, and one son, seven-year-old Noah. We apologize to the Wiaters family.
