Each day members of our community quietly celebrate milestones, achievements and accomplishments—big and small. This department is meant to showcase these triumphs to the greater community.
When you send submissions, please include all details that apply: full names of any individuals mentioned, details of the milestone and everyone impacted by the event, and a contact name and phone number or email address. Send a photo if you have one. Please identify each individual from left to right (large group shots can simply be identified by the group name) and provide the name of the photographer so we can give proper credit. Memo Pad submissions for the July issue are due Monday, June 15. For best results, e-mail Darlene Vinson at editor@midcountymemo.com or mail submissions to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave, Portland, OR 97230. To leave a phone message, call 503-287-8904. The Mid-county Memo fax number is 503-249-7672.

High school grads earn Ford Foundation scholarships
Eight Mid-county students, representing five area high schools, are 2015 Ford Scholars. The Ford Family Foundation scholarship program was founded by Kenneth W. Ford in 1957 to help students who would otherwise find it difficult to obtain a college degree without financial assistance. Ford was the owner of Roseburg Forest Products Co. in southern Oregon.
Eligibility criteria include financial need and merit qualifications. In addition, scholars must attend an accredited, nonprofit college in their home state and be pursuing a bachelor’s degree full time. The renewable scholarship covers 90 percent of each student’s unmet financial need for each academic year.
Recipients, their high schools and chosen universities are:
• Sang Tzun “Sam” Phan, Centennial High School, Portland State University
• Pau Thang, Centennial High School, George Fox University
• Eduardo Deleon, David Douglas High School, University of Oregon
• Mustaf Mohamed, Madison High School, University of Portland
• Vadim Gaynaliy, Parkrose High School, Concordia University
• Manaz Rezayee, Parkrose High School, Portland State University
• Chi Phan, Reynolds High School, Willamette University
• Olesya “Alissa” Tipikina, Reynolds High School, Concordia University
