Memo Letters...

The Mid-county Memo is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue or address a concern you want to call to the community’s attention. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put “Letter to the editor” in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. The deadline for the October issue is Saturday, Sept. 15.

There are still good people out there
To the editor:
Recently my kids and I were heading to the beach as a friend had offered us her house. We were loading up the bikes and noticed my son’s front tire was flat.

We headed up to the great people at Gateway Bicycle, and they fixed it so we were quickly on our way. As I was walking the bike out to the car, I set my wallet down on the curb and secured the bike. I became distracted when a friend I hadn’t seen in a while drove by and we got to talking.

I got in the car, and we made our way down to the coast. When we stopped in Seaside to buy food for the trip, I noticed then that I didn’t have my wallet. I called the bike store, and they looked outside, but by then it had been two hours. I called the bank and cancelled my debit card and then called a friend in town to borrow some money. I didn’t want this to ruin our time at the coast.

We had a great time, but nothing compared to coming home and finding my wallet tucked in between the screen door and main door of the house. The money was still there and everything intact. I just wanted to be able to thank the person who was honest and considerate enough to bring back my wallet. I hope you’re an individual who reads the Memo like I do and will receive this message. The biggest relief was knowing I didn’t have to spend time and money replacing my driver’s license and medical cards. This was also a huge lesson for my kids as they saw the joy that comes with doing the right thing.

Thanks again,

Reader laments loss of farms
To the editor:
I would like to respond to the letter to the editor written by Allison Garre in regard to the Garre and Rossi farms not being able to plant any longer.

I am so sorry we are losing our farms. Where will we get our food if we continue to build housing developments, malls and parking lots on all of our farmland? I hope we don’t have to rely on China and the rat poison additives.

Parkrose is losing a rich heritage of Italian farmers, and it can never be replaced.
We will miss the Garre and Rossi farmers and their land.

Thank you,
Barbara Bradshaw
40-year Parkrose resident
