SCHOOL CORNER
Principal invites community over for pie
Principal Roy Reynolds will don his apron and serve pie to parents and community members who attend a new fall event at Parkrose High School.

“P.I.E. Night represents the school opening its doors to our Partners In Education,” explained the administrator who is starting his second year at PHS. “We want to have a meaningful conversation with parents and other community members about the future of our school. The pie,” he smiled, “is a reward for their participation.”

Participants will answer three key questions during the event slated for Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. The answers to these questions will influence the school’s annual improvement plan. “These are the kind of questions that parents will know the answers to,” Reynolds says. The P.I.E. Night questions are: What are we currently doing that you would like to see continued? What new ideas should we consider to promote student learning? How can we build and enhance partnerships between our school and community? “I can’t wait to hear what people have to say,” Reynolds concluded.

The Bronco Boosters, the nonprofit organization supporting academics and student activities at PHS is co-sponsoring the forum. Janet Gardner, outgoing Booster president, supports this outreach to parents and the community.

“There are lots of folks with good ideas and we need their support,” she said. “We’ll also have information about joining the Boosters available at P.I.E. Night. There are lots of opportunities to do short term volunteering or become part of the leadership team.” The Boosters meet the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the PHS library.

Used book sale and family night
Browse for used books, enjoy some treats and listen to DJ Robinson play some oldies but goldies.

Proceeds will benefit the Shaver Library.

For more information, contact the school at 503-408-2850.

Registration begins for winter athletes
Sanjay Bedi, Parkrose High School’s new athletic director, announces a streamlined process for parents and guardians to get their student-athletes cleared to participate in winter sports. Students should pick up registration packets from the athletic office before coming to the Registration Night on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Families and players will be able to informally meet the coaches for basketball, swimming and wrestling when they bring in physical forms, permission slips, emergency contact cards and their athletics participation fee. Members of the Snow Riders (snowboarding/skiing) Club are also required to register with the athletics department.

Coaches and staff will be in the Student Center to accommodate parents and players dropping off registration materials any time between 5 and 7 p.m.

“We want our athletes to have their physicals and be cleared to start practicing with their teams on the first day of the season,” explains Bedi, who also serves as the varsity volleyball coach and health and PE teacher at PHS. Parents with questions may call Bedi at 503-408-2723.
