Fitness club opens in Gateway area
Slim and Tone 30-Minute Workout for Women, LLC, an international, women-only fitness club operation, has announced a local franchise opening in the Gateway neighborhood. The club, geared for women of all ages and fitness abilities, is located at Northeast 114th Avenue and Halsey Street. As an introductory offer the first 100 members will receive 1/2 off the initiation fee and a free gift.

“Slim and Tone is specifically designed for women who wouldn’t feel comfortable in a traditional ‘hard-body’ gym,” said Michelle Craver and Teresa Doran, owners of the newest club. Set in a comfortable, non-intimidating environment, the circuit-training workout is a combination of hydraulic resistance machines and cardiovascular stations set up in intervals. “Hydraulic equipment operates without a weight stack, which means getting sore or injured is highly unlikely,” said Craver. “Each member can go at her own pace and still get a great workout. The focus at Slim and Tone goes beyond weights and measurements,” she adds. “We place more emphasis on the overall wellness of our members. Slim and Tone is the perfect way to ensure better bone health, to boost energy, reduce stress and to feel better about oneself.”

What stops most people from joining a facility? “Intimidation,” says a University of Michigan study. Specifically, respondents feared they would not fit into the health club environment and worried that they would not be able to do what an instructor asked of them. As a result, most Americans never even walk into a health club.

According to Doran, Slim and Tone not only eliminates the fear factor, it also maximizes a woman’s time by offering an efficient series of exercise stations. These include three upper body, three lower body and two abdominal machines with intervals for cardiovascular work. “Our members keep moving from station to station in just 30 minutes. In the process, they become inspired by each other and develop a wonderful sense of camaraderie while burning calories, fat and adding muscle tone.”

Doran also points out how each piece of equipment offers nine different settings — something competitors can’t match. “Plus we’re open all day and Saturdays, and we allow club members to exercise as long as they like,” she said, adding that this is an added benefit over other exercise circuit facilities. “We make it convenient, efficient and fun. Now there really are no excuses!” said Craver.
