East Portland Chamber networking meetings
Business people on the eastside can make new contacts and promote their products and services at the following “Good Morning East Portland” networking meetings sponsored by the East Portland Chamber of Commerce.

Each Wednesday morning meeting will run from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.

Lazerquick will host the March 10 meeting at 10090 S.E. Washington St.

The Conference Center at 300 N.E. Multnomah St. is the site of the March 17 meeting. Opportunity Zone is hosting.

The March 24 meeting will be hosted by Syd Dorn’s Vehicle Buyer’s Service at 10351 S.E. Pine St.

The final meeting of the month will be March 31 at 11825 N.E. Ainsworth Circle. Filter Fresh will host.

Local CPA’s convert to paperless environment
Robin L. Gulde, CPA and Lisa A. Ortquist, CPA announce that the firm of Gulde & Ortquist, PC has recently converted their office to a semi-paperless environment for the coming tax season.

Their office features new computer hardware and software that allows for the preparation of individual income tax returns while generating over 75% less paper than in previous years. Utilizing scanning technology, the office will also expect to reduce its required storage space dramatically over the next few years.

Gulde & Ortquist, PC has been a leader in electronic filing among CPA firms and sees this new development as a logical extension of that service. As part of the new service, clients will receive a CD with copies of their tax returns and source documents in Adobe(c) format. Ortquist expects the CD to be handy when clients need copies of returns and important documents, such as W-2’s, when they refinance their residence, etc.

The office will not be completely paperless, as clients will still receive a bound presentation copy of their return as they have in the past. Clients who desire to file via a paper return will still have that option available to them.

Gulde & Ortquist, PC is a local practice located at Northeast 112th Avenue and Halsey Street in the Gateway District. It is focused on the needs of small business and individuals. Targeting the service, construction and retail industries, Gulde & Ortquist, PC is able to provide valued personal service that goes far beyond the basic compliance functions. Gulde, a former IRS Agent, has been in private practice since 1989. He has a bachelor’s degree from Lewis & Clark College and an MBA from the University of Portland. Ortquist, a former Washington Department of Revenue Agent, has been in practice since 1995 and has a bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University.

Vice President appointment announced
Glenda Michael has been appointed Vice President-Business Development Officer for Town Center Bank. “Mrs. Michael is a very experienced Portland area banker and we are extremely pleased to have her join our team”, stated Bruce Bryant, President and CEO of the local community-owned Bank.

Glenda Michael has been in banking for 25 years, having previously served as Business Development Officer for Bank of the Northwest. Michael is a graduate of Northwest Intermediate Banking School and has completed numerous banking classes. Michael is actively involved in various community projects and presently serves as President of the Rotary Club of Canby.

Michael will be located in the Bank’s Gateway Office at Northeast 107th Avenue and Halsey Street. In addition to her duties as Business Development Officer, she will be actively involved in expanding the Bank’s cash management services throughout the market area.

Athletic club purchases defibrillation equipment
Cascade Athletic Clubs, 9260 S.E. Stark St. has announced the recent purchase of three Automated External Defibrillators, or AED’s. AED’s are rapidly becoming the standard of care for improving a person’s chance of survival when experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

Sudden cardiac arrest claims more than 250,000 lives annually in the US. It can happen anywhere, anytime, to anyone without warning. Without an AED, chances of survival are lower than 4%. If effective defibrillation is administered within 3 to 5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival chances increase to 50%.

In the past, Cascade Athletic Clubs, like other businesses have had to wait until the paramedics arrived to administer the defibrillation. Club Manager Scott Dobson states that his staff has attended a 3 hour CPR and AED training session and he feels confident they have a better chance to administer the defibrillation with 3 to 5 minutes and increase the chances of saving members lives. “With over 1000 visits a day per club, emergencies happen and we want to be as prepared as possible, “ he says.

Dobson and owner Mark Eisenzimmer hope to lead the community effort in providing this state of the art equipment.
