Memo Letters... The Mid-county Memo is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue or address a concern you want to call to the communitys attention. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put Letter to the editor in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. Our deadline for the March issue is Friday, Feb. 15. Parks or projects To the editor: Just a quick comment on the recent article Citizens debate park development fee increase, January 2008. It comes as no surprise that the headline does not read Citizens debate infill for Gateway and Parkrose communities. The real debate should be centered on the turning of our low-cost and safe neighborhoods into Portlands projects with all of the crime, traffic and other population pressures that will come with this huge increase in density. Now that our residential neighborhoods have been slated for maximum development, we are being encouraged to fight over the scraps while helping the city of Portland to increase the tax base. Is anyone else buying this fictitious agenda? Carter Blue Hazelwood Accident victim thanks neighbors An open letter to my Parkrose neighbors: My faith in humanity was renewed with the events of Monday, Jan. 7. I was driving home from work when I was involved in a head-on auto accident on Northeast 138th Avenue and Fremont Street. My air bag deployed while my vehicle rolled backwards and came to a stop. OnStar came on and asked me if I could speak. I answered yes and asked for an ambulance. A gentleman pulled open my door and told me he would help me to get out of the car. I didnt want to move as I was hurt, but he explained that the vehicle was smoking and could start on fire. He very carefully helped me out of the vehicle and to the parking strip. I sat down, as I was hurt and stunned from the accident. Another gentleman helped me to the ground and said I needed to sit up as he held my neck to stabilize it until the ambulance arrived. He put his knee up against my back and told me to lean against it. I started shaking from the cold and the trauma of the accident. Another gentleman got me a blanket that I was wrapped in. It was a green blanket that I still have and hope to return to the neighbor who supplied it. As I sat on the grass being supported and held, another gentleman held me and talked to me. He told me to stay calm, that I was all right, that help was on the way. Other neighbors asked if I was all right and offered their help. They stayed with me until the ambulance arrived and took charge. Fortunately I had no serious injuries, and Im healing quickly. I do not know any of the neighbors who helped me, but I hope that I can meet them and thank them for helping me through a trying time. My faith in mankind is renewed. I feel so proud of my Parkrose neighbors. I am extending a very special thanks to my neighbors. Matt Bromley Argay |
