Parkrose resident and neighborhood activist Don Bartley passed away suddenly on Jan. 8. He was 52.

Donald James Bartley was born March 28, 1955. Born and raised in Portland, his career was as a computer technician.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Bonnie; daughter, Lisa Strahl; son, Ryan Bartley; brothers, Daniel, Richard, Robert and John Bartley; and son-in-law Michael Strahl.

A memorial service was held Jan. 19 at Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Donations in memory of Don Bartley can be made in care of Christine Bloom at Providence Credit Union.

Don Bartley was active in the Parkrose Heights Association of Neighbors, serving as its chairman and as chair of the land-use committee.

Current PHAN chairwoman, Carol Williams, told the Memo that Bartley was very much involved in improving the livability of his neighborhood. “He was so well liked and active,” she said. “He was very involved in our spring cleanups. I don’t know what we’ll do without him. He would spend the whole day, not just an hour or two” assisting in the cleanups, she said.
