SCHOOL CORNER Getting into, and paying for the college of your choice The career counseling center at Parkrose High School, 12003 N.E. Shaver St., is offering an on-going series of presentations to help students get to college. Each year thousands of dollars of scholarship money goes un-awarded. Students and parents who attend the session on Thursday, Feb. 3 will learn strategies for a successful scholarship search, receive tips on the application process and find out ways to become a prime candidate in the eyes of the committees who revue these applications. On Thursday, March 3, students will learn the secrets of writing a winning essay to accompany college admission and scholarship applications. Presenters will offer students and their parents pointers designed to help turn a ho-hum essay into one that will help win a scholarship. Each of these presentations will be held in the high school library from 3 to 5 p.m. Teena Ainslie at 503-408-2642 can tell you more. College bound students need mentors The ASPIRE Program at Parkrose High School is again looking for volunteers to work with students. This is a crucial time, as high school seniors need to get financial aid applications and state of Oregon scholarship applications completed and sent by Feb. 15 to get in on the first draw of funds. Those who miss this deadline may find that there is not much money left. Volunteers who can guide and motivate students are an important part of the process.
