Letters to Editor...

The Mid-county MEMO is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue or address a concern you want to call to the community’s attention. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson, at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put ‘letter to the editor’ in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. Our deadline for the March issue is Friday, February 13.

To the Editor:

We at Loaves & Fishes Centers, The Meals-On-Wheels People, would like to thank the many volunteers who helped feed Portland’s homebound seniors during one of the worst storms in the city’s history.

Last week, thanks to the hundreds of people who signed up to serve as emergency volunteers, we were able to continue serving the 2,700 seniors who rely on us every day for Meals On Wheels.

Many of our dining centers were closed during the week because it was simply too dangerous for the 1,500 seniors who normally join us for lunch in these centers to attempt traveling through snow and ice.

However, at no point during the week did we completely halt Meals-On-Wheels delivery or go a day without calling to check on each of the homebound seniors who receive those meals.

We’d like to take this opportunity to give the community our thanks and gratitude. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Loaves & Fishes Centers, Executive Director

To the Editor:

We are sending a big thank you to everyone who made the Giving Tree and Food Drive at Rossi Farms a great success!

All of your generous donations made a huge difference for many families this last holiday season.

The Giving Tree was so colorfully decorated with hats, gloves, scarves, and lots & lots of clothes; which all benefited Human Solutions Inc, a non-profit organization helping local families in East County.

The Food Drive collected an overwhelming 934 pounds of non-perishable foods for The Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division.

We’d like to recognize all our great business sponsors for all the generous business donations to our “Goodie Bag” Night; which encouraged many to give that evening. Our special thanks to Elmer’s Flag & Banner, Franz Bakery, The Blazers, Nabisco, Kinko’s Mall 205, Embassy Suite Airport Way, Logo Works, WB32, Portland Rent-All, Hasson Realty, Ticor Title, Multnomah County Libraries, and the Mid-county Memo.

Special recognition is due Prescott Elementary students for all their support with our food-drive. Great job Prescott students for collecting!

Rossi Farms appreciates everyone’s participation and the continued support from our community.

Sincerely,
Amy Salvador

To the Editor:

You have written a story that has helped so much in our recruitment for ASPIRE Advisor’s. Your article helped generate a list of outstanding adults who want to be ASPIRE Advisors. I’ve scheduled training for the new folks at the end of the month. Our total now is 10 new people to train. We can use more.

One man called who receives the MEMO in the mail, read the story to his wife and told me that it generated an intellectual conversation between him and his wife about the process and both want to volunteer. He was pleased with how informative and positive the article was.

A professional woman from Portland General Electric is excited about working at Parkrose with students.

Another professional woman from a major advertising firm in Portland, who lives in the neighborhood on 110th, said that she has been so upset about the problems Parkrose had in September and had been wishing she could do something helpful for the school and ASPIRE is it.

The training takes an hour and a half and we do have students waiting for help. Interested people can call and leave a message with their phone number, address, zip and e-mail and I’ll send them an application for the training.

It’s so nice to have positive input from the community and the MEMO. Thank you to all the MEMO staff. Parkrose High School is fortunate to have this neighborhood paper helping to express school needs.
