Letters to the Editor...
Independence Day celebrations spoil park To the Editor: I was very saddened to see the state of East Holladay Park, 12999 N.E. Holladay St., on the day after July 4. The park was completely trashed. Big sections of the grass field were covered with firework wrappings and some areas of the recently installed walkway were stained red. My toddler loves to run in the grass in that park, but that is now impossible due to the level of debris, chemicals and trash there. It was not a safe environment for children, dogs or anyone else to enjoy. My understanding is that fireworks are illegal in public parks. Perhaps simple enforcement of the law would prevent this kind of garbage and vandalism. I think the city could have reduced the problem by sending a patrol car through to emphasize cleanup or simply not allowing fireworks in the park. Sincerely, Andrew Fabbro Wilkes neighborhood |
