Having looked forward to this happy event for many years, I immediately set out to discover the senior activities available in my community. I remembered the huge tax bond a few years ago that involved building a new Parkrose High School. I don not recall the year this occurred, but I do recall that passing that bond was a hard-won victory, possible only when the building of a community/senior center was included in the plans. With this in mind, I drove to the beautiful new Parkrose High School building, parked at the east end of the property, and walked through a door into a vacant hallway. Finding no directions, no doors announcing “senior center”, and, in fact, no activity at all, I opened an unmarked door into what appeared to be a small office with one young man inside. I explained what I was looking for and was informed that while there was a small Multnomah County Library branch in the building, there certainly was no senior or community center, and no plans that he knew of creating such center. I wandered for a few minutes, found no one else to whom I could pose my questions, and left the building knowing nothing more about the promised community/senior center than I had when I entered the building. So, while the following questions may not be timely, they do beg for answers. 1. What happened to the center that was promised to pass the school bond? 2. Do any plans exist for such center? 3. If so, when may Parkrose residents expect to see results? 4. If not, what happened to the money intended to pay for the center? Carol Bouchard 10512 N.E.
