Memo Calendar (continued) ... The heart of your neighborhood When you discover a problem or issue of concern in your neighborhood, look no further than your neighborhood association for help. With direct access to city government and a united voice, the East Portland Neighborhood Office or EPNO, located at 735 S.E. 106th Ave., will put you in touch with your neighborhood association. The Glenfair Neighborhood Association will not meet in November. The Wilkes Community Group general meeting will be at the Teamsters Complex, Jo Edgar Hall, 1850 S.E. 162nd Ave on Tuesday, November 11 at 7 p.m. The Russell Neighborhood Association will not meet in November. Hazelwood Neighborhood Association meeting will be November 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the East Precinct Community Room, 737 S.E. 106th Ave. The group will welcome as guest speaker Multnomah County Commissioner Lisa Naito. The Argay Neighborhood Association will meet Tuesday, November 18 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at Parkrose High School, 12003 N.E. Shaver St. Parkrose Neighborhood Association, or PNA, is meeting on Tuesday, November 18 at 7 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 11100 N.E. Skidmore St. Contact PNA chairman Mark Gardner at 503-254-1752 with your questions. A Board meeting only is scheduled for the Parkrose Heights Neighborhood Association, or PHAN, on Tuesday, November 18 at 7 p.m. in Miller Hall at Parkrose United Methodist Church, 11111 N. E. Knott St. There is a working session of the board but is an open meeting. At this time, this is no December meeting scheduled. If there is a need for it, a special meeting will be called. SCHOOL CORNER Turn cans into scholarships On the first Saturday of each month at Parkrose Middle School members of the Bronco Boosters collect pop cans and bottles to raise funds for scholarships. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Parkrose High School Bronco Boosters will be collecting refundable aluminum cans and refundable glass and plastic bottles. Please save your refundable cans and bottles and donate them to Parkrose. Parkrose Middle School is located at 11800 N.E. Shaver St. For more information or if you would like your cans and bottles picked up call Sue Kunz at 503.254.2664 Remember, November 1 and December 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Parkrose Middle School. Carnegie Hall or bust Parkrose High School A-Choir has been invited to perform at New York Citys Carnegie Hall in Spring 2004. As a result, they are holding various fund-raisers to raise $75,000 for expenses. Michael Allan Harrison will perform at a benefit concert on Saturday, November 29 at 2:00 pm in the High School Theater. The Parkrose Debonnaires will be singing as well as other local artists. Tickets are $12.50 per person, $10.00 senior and student when purchased in advance. They will be $15.00 at the door. You may order your tickets by calling the Parkrose High School box office at 503-408-2718. In addition, the Parkrose High School A-Choir will be hosting a Santas Breakfast and Bazaar on Saturday, December 6 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The breakfast will go through 11:30 a.m. and the bazaar will continue until 1 p.m. The four elementary school choirs will be the featured performers at this event. SENIOR RESOURCES You are not alone On Monday, November 10 Sounding Board for Widows and Widowers will meet at Central Lutheran Church, 1820 N.E. 21st Ave (one block north of Broadway) at 1 p.m. The Bump in the Road Theater will present I Think about Life, a collage of scenes, frequently humorous, sometimes poignant and occasionally irreverent inspired by first person accounts gathered from people who have faced life threatening illness, death and loss. Guests welcome. For more information please call Helen Long at 503-774-1717. Then on Monday, November 24 at 1 p.m. the group will meet at The Pink Feather, 14154 S.E. Everyone there has been where you are now and looks forward to meeting you and helping you along this new, and sometimes lonely pathway. Play cards and meet new people A unique social and recreational opportunity awaits seniors at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave. Play Bunco on Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon, Bridge on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m., Bingo on Wednesdays from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. or Fridays from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. and Pinochle from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.
