You can attend a public hearing to testify before the Metro Council about Metro’s analysis and recommendations. Share your views and advice on where and how fish and wildlife habitat should be protected.

Family Swim Center in the future for East Portland Community Center
The 2002 Parks Levy approved by Portland voters provided funds to complete the East Portland Community Center. Those who have been around long enough will remember that the center was designed to include a future pool, but the pool was not included in the original bond measure. Now it is time to finish the job.

Join Portland Parks & Recreation staff to learn about what’s possible in the new facility and share your ideas.

Additional community meetings will be held in the summer to solicit input on options and priorities, and in the fall to present the proposed plan. Development of detailed construction drawings, permitting and bidding will follow. Construction will begin in late 2006 and will take a little over a year to complete. The new pool will open in early 2008.

To learn more about the project and to participate in a survey, go to the main entrance at Mall 205, 9900 S.E. Washington St, on Saturday, May 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for what is being billed as a ‘Stop and Talk’. Portland Parks and Recreation staff will be on hand to discuss the swim center and respond to your questions.

Two meetings are planned for Thursday, May 13. At 10:30 a.m. the needs of seniors will be discussed. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a general community-planning meeting. Both will be at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave.

Fun times in Gateway

The luncheon meeting will begin at 11:45 a.m. at JJ North’s Grand Buffet, 10520 N.E. Halsey Street.
