Organizers claim rummage sale to be the event of the season
Summer is a slow time for food drives, but children without school lunch need to eat even more at home than usual. To raise money to stock rapidly emptying shelves, SnowCap is putting on the Sale of the Season. On Saturday, June 18 at 17805 S.E. Stark St. there will be a huge selection of rummage offered at the lowest possible prices. Furniture, books, record albums, vintage clothing, jewelry, candles, and car parts will be for sale.

You can help neighbors in need by cleaning out your basement and donating your rummage during the week of June 13, and by shopping the sale on Saturday.
Call 503-674-8785, ext. 12 for more information.

Music, charity combine at blues festival
If you are a fan of blues music, then there is one not-be-be-missed music festival of the summer: the 2005 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Credit Union.

The festival is the largest festival west of the Mississippi and the second largest blues festival in the nation. It annually attracts more than 120,000 blues fans who travel from throughout the world to hear performances by more than 100 blues artists on four stages in Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the banks of Willamette River in downtown Portland.

The 18th annual blues festival opens at noon on Friday, July 1, and concludes Monday, July 4, following a display of fireworks.

This year’s festival includes some of the finest blues artists in the U.S., including Buddy Guy, considered the greatest living exponent of classic Chicago electric blues and a peerless showman.
In addition, the Women in Blues show on July 3 includes soul and gospel legend Mavis Staples, and blues belter Shemekia Copeland.

Another featured artist is Guitar Shorty, whose pyrotechnics and stage antics were an early influence on his young brother-in-law, Jimi Hendrix.

For a complete list of those artists attending, go to www.waterfrontbluesfest.com.

And look for in-depth educational workshops and the Ethos Blues Lab for children.

“The workshops give the festival a cultural depth that doesn’t exist at other festivals,” said Lisa Wiebe, director of development at the Oregon Food Bank.

Daily admission to the festival is $5 and two cans of food. The festival is the major annual fund-raiser for Oregon Food Bank, a charitable nonprofit agency. All festival proceeds benefit Oregon Food Bank’s work to eliminate hunger and its root causes.

Rossi Barn Bash on the horizon
One of the most original fundraising events to be found anywhere, the Rossi Barn Bash, is set for Saturday, July 9 from 6 p.m. until midnight. Mark your calendars, polish your cowboy boots and plan to become part of this great evening. For the price of the $12 admission, you will feast on the all-you-can-eat barbeque chicken dinner, enjoy live actors as they present a Wild West show, dance until you’re ready to drop to the music of a local country western band and undoubtedly run into friends and neighbors from throughout the area.

Proceeds from this fun event benefit the Parkrose Youth Activities Fund that helps to support a host of youth programs in the Parkrose School District.

Last year over 1700 partying folks were at the Barn Bash. We suggest you drop by Rossi Farms at 3839 N.E. 122nd Ave. to purchase tickets in advance. Check into the volunteer opportunities while you are there. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the event. This is a 21 and over affair. To learn more, call 503-253-5571.
