Candles and handcrafts
Browse tables of handcrafted items, candles, quilts and jewelry at Midway Christian Church, 2546 S.E. 131st Ave., Dec. 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be served.

DDHS PTSA Holiday Bazaar
Mark your calendars for the 12th annual David Douglas High School Parent Teacher Student Association Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bazaar will be held at in the north building cafeteria, 1001 S.E. 135th Ave., and will feature local crafts, holiday decorations, baked goods, glasswork, pottery and gift baskets.

Bazaar supports Oregon Food Bank
The Crossroads Church Christmas Bazaar is Saturday, Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shoppers will find handmade Christmas gifts crafted by local artisans including candles, jewelry, ornaments, baked goods, framed photography and much more. The church will donate 100 percent of raffle ticket sales and fees collected from vendors, along with 20 % of all other sales to the Oregon Food Bank at the Crossroads Cupboard location.

Ceramics Club holiday sale
Peruse a wide variety of quality ceramics made by students and alumni at the Mt. Hood Community College Ceramics Club holiday sale on Tuesday, Dec. 2 and Wednesday, Dec. 3.

THE ARTS
“Bye, Bye Birdie” the musical
Come see over 100 David Douglas students shine in this lighthearted comic musical on Dec. 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now. The box office is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on school days in the performing arts center. Tickets are $7 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. Living Christmas story
Crossroads Church presents The Living Christmas Story, an outdoor, five-stage retelling of the Christmas story in word and song. Performances are Dec. 12, 13 and 14 with continuous shows from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

This free event is family friendly and open to the public. Handicap assistance and free valet parking are provided as well as hot beverages while you wait for the next tour to begin.

Three chances to hear choirs
December is a busy month for Parkrose student choirs. The high school and elementary choirs host the Back Home with Michael Allen Harrison Holiday Concert on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. in the high school theater, 12003 N.E. Shaver St. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $12.50 for adults. Call Choral Director Lesley Bossert at 503-4-08-2695 to get yours.

The high school A-choir, Treble Choir and the Debonaires will perform at The Grotto on Monday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m.; the Winter Holiday Choir concert is Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. in the high school theater. Admission is free for the winter concert.

Rousing concert planned
The Portland Metro Concert Band will present a holiday concert on Friday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the David Douglas High School Horner Performing Arts Center, 1400 S.E. 130th Ave. The program includes a variety of seasonal music, including “Feliz Navidad” and “Honga” from the klezmer tradition, a centuries-old Yiddish musical style. In addition, there are selections by outstanding contemporary composers, a medley of songs from the Broadway show “Annie” and a couple of lively marches.

There is no admission charge, but the band welcomes donations to defray concert expenses.

Free jazz concert
Enjoy a night of free jazz music at the Mt. Hood Community College Jazz Concert Night on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. in the college theater on the Gresham campus, 26000 S.E. Stark St.

Winter Carnival and food drive
Lincoln Park Elementary, 13200 S.E. Lincoln St., is hosting a winter carnival on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This fun event is open to everyone. Bring your family and friends.

Admission is $2 per person, which includes four tokens for use at craft and game stations. Additional tokens can be purchased at four for $1.

Mother/Son Dinner
The annual Mother/Son Dinner, hosted by the David Douglas Dads Club, is Thursday, Dec. 11. The night will include dinner and tickets to the musical “Bye, Bye Birdie.” Ticket prices for dinner and the show are $15 for adults and $11 for students. Have breakfast with Santa
Enjoy breakfast with Santa on Sunday, Dec. 21, courtesy of American Legion Post 1. Kids 12 and under will be served for free; all others will pay $5. Teen Lounge Unplugged -- Dance Dance Revolution: The second Thursday of the month is DDR Day. Anyone in grades 6-12 is invited to jump around like a fool to DDR. Compete with a friend or just try it out yourself. No experience is necessary. Bring your friends, hang out and eat snacks. Thursday, Dec. 11 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
