Tax season got you down?

Help is near at hand for dealing with your income tax preparation, getting answers to your tax questions, and dealing with your tax problems in the new Parkrose H&R Block.  The new office offers tax preparation for Federal returns and all state returns as well as electronic filing, rapid refund, and refund anticipation loans.

Licensed tax consultant Barbara Lutes, who has over 16 years of experience in tax preparation, leads the staff.  “Changes in tax laws always present a few problems, but this year there are sweeping changes in the tax laws,” says Lutes.  “Even taxpayers who have always prepared their own returns are finding a helpful hand useful this year.”

Also staffing the office are office manager and licensed tax preparer Chuck Herndon and licensed preparers Jeanne Herndon, Peggy Minter, and Enedina Brambila, who is also fluent in Spanish.  All members of the staff are local residents and look forward to building the Parkrose H&R Block office into a success and a valuable resource for the community.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call the Parkrose H&R Block at 503-262-8192 for an appointment, or stop by 13836 N.E. Sandy Blvd.  The Parkrose H&R Block is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Agent Celebrates 3 years in Gateway

Karen Montez understands that the people are what make a business work.  She is committed to earning and maintaining the trust of the community she lives in by providing quality services.  April is Montez’s third anniversary as an American Family Insurance Agent, and she will continue to do what she does best - provide dependable, friendly service.

Montez not only offers standard types of insurance, including a variety of vehicle, home, business, life and health insurance, but also offers a wide range of financial services.  She is eager to help you discover what works best for you.

Montez will listen to your needs, and inform you of your options, so you can make an informed decision.  She works hard to bring you sensible coverage at the lowest possible price.  If you qualify for any of the many American Family discounts, you can save even more.  As time passes, Montez will periodically offer a Personal Insurance Review to make sure your insurance is still the best for your needs.  Montez will examine all of your policies - including non-American Family policies - to alert you to costly duplications or gaps in coverage.

Second year expansion brings two new employees to Dawn’s Beauty Salon

Dawn Ngo opened her one woman shop in Gateway two years ago this April. She graced the front page of the Mid-county Memo in April 2001 as an example of the American Dream come true. She offered low cost haircuts, ($6.99) highlighting, coloring, perms, and superb customer service seven days a week.

In the two years since opening, due to the demand for her services, Dawn’s Beauty Salon has grown to include barber Ken Le and new stylist Tammy Truong.

Dawn wants to extend thanks to her neighborhood customers for patronizing her salon and becoming her friends. Recently Dawn had her second child, yet still finds time to attend Cosmetology School to further her education.

In addition to the current services offered, Dawn’s Beauty Salon now does nails, manicuring pedicures, waxing, and coloring. Her low cost haircuts have risen to only eight dollars since opening. In Dawn’s own words, “I offer the best service in town at cheap prices, no appointments necessary.”

The American Dream lives on. See for yourself. Dawn’s Beauty Salon is located at 11511 Northeast Halsey Street, their phone number is 503-258-0631.

New and improved Menlo Park Liquor

Menlo Park Liquor is proud to announce a complete renovation.  The store boasts new ownership, and all-new customer-friendly employees.  Menlo Park Liquor has also relocated into the former Menlo Park Plaza Pharmacy building.  The new location has been completely redecorated, including liquor-themed wallpaper and new flooring.  Menlo Park Liquor also has new extended hours, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The new owner, Shelley Robertson, has three years of experience in the business, having helped her husband Jeff Robertson run Rose City Liquor at N.E. 73rd Ave. and Fremont St.  Now she has her own shop and has wasted no time applying her expertise.  Menlo Park Liquor carries liquor, mixers, and cigarettes, and now includes over 400 new items.  They offer everything from a variety of stuffed olives to asparagus spears.  Whether you like to mix your drink with Angostura bitters or cocktail onions, Menlo Park Liquor carries it all.  They have an extensive selection at competitive prices.  Cigarettes are also inexpensive - right now, Menlo Park liquor offers single pack Camels for $2.90 and Marlboros for $3.

Sally and Jeff Robertson each own a liquor store, which works for the benefit of the customer.  If Menlo Park Liquor runs out of some item, they can get fresh stock from Rose City, and the employees from each store back each other up to provide adequate sales staff.  The Robertson’s son Buddy works for both stores.

Next time you feel like a drink, head down to Menlo Park Plaza Liquor, 12425 N.E. Glisan St.  For more information, call Menlo Park Liquor at 503-252-3550.
