The Mid-county MEMO is your newspaper. We want to hear from you. Discuss an important issue or address a concern you want to call to the community’s attention. We prefer e-mailed letters to the editor sent to Darlene Vinson, at editor@midcountymemo.com. Please put ‘letter to the editor’ in the subject line. You may also mail your letter to 3510 N.E. 134th Ave., Portland, OR 97230 or fax it to 503-249-7672. Our deadline for the December issue is Friday, November 14.

To the Editor:
PGE GETS POWER BACK FAST - Would a PUD?

During last week’s storm, PGE did a great job of getting the power back on in my neighborhood, Glendoveer. The outage lasted less than an hour. I heard on the news that more than half of the 8,000 customers who lost power in our region were back within two hours. Even the TV news anchors were singing the praises of PGE’s linemen.

PGE and its repair crews are famous for this type of work. Why risk turning it over to a peoples utility district, directed by politicians? From what I read in the voters’ pamphlet those candidates have zero, zip, nada experience running a utility company.

I have the same concern for the future of Pacific Power, which is also the target of this government takeover in Multnomah County. On Nov. 4, please vote no on this poorly planned, risky proposal.

Bekke Johnson
Glendoveer
