Parkrose teacher strike averted TIM CURRAN THE MID-COUNTY MEMO
In an email, Superintendent Karen Fischer Gray said, The Parkrose School District is proud of the Parkrose community coming together to support its students. Both sides had strong points of view and tenacity. In the end, Parkrose came together as a community of learners to find a common ground from which to develop a tentative agreement. Now we can turn our attention forward, together as a district, to continue the great work in education that we have begun. Before proffering it to members for a May 3rd vote, the Parkrose Faculty Association bargaining team took the tentative agreement to the East County Bargaining Council for analysis. The ECBC is comprised of union members from nearby school districts. In a statement released by the union, PFA President Jennifer Handsaker said, We are proud of our work, and proud of our fellow educators, and we are eager to show them the same strong support that helped bolster us so much during this difficult time. And we will also be glad to have the security of a new contract so we can get back to what we are trained to do: educate our students. If the school board ratifies the approved agreement, the new contract's details will be made public. In a related item, at the school board's April 23rd meeting, they voted to extended Fischer Gray's contract for three more years. |
