Memo Calendar (continued) ... Business owners get a boost Parkrose is offering the chance for business owners to get together. The Parkrose Business Association (PBA) meets every month, and local business owners discuss ways to improve the Parkrose area. Monthly meetings keep business owners informed about business and neighborhood news of interest, as well as offering members the chance to get the word out about their business through Member Moments. Members arent the only ones who speak at meetings; every meeting also includes a guest speaker discussing a topic of interest. This months speaker will be Detective Steve Christianson of the Portland Police, discussing identity and business fraud. The Member Moment for March will focus on American Family Insurance represented by Daniel Woods. The meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 in Steamers Restaurant, 8303 N.E. Gateway businesses work together The Gateway Area Business Association (GABA) has been working together to benefit the Gateway community for over 50 years. GABA has introduced many events and innovations, including the Fun-O-Rama festivities and the recent re-introduction of the Gateway Arches. All local business owners and managers are invited to participate in this thriving organization. GABA meetings not only include a chance to communicate with other business owners, but GABA also sponsors guest speakers on business, community and related subjects and issues at each meeting. This months meeting will be on Thursday, March 13 at 11:45 a.m. in JJ Norths Grand Buffet banquet room, 10520 N.E. Halsey St. The featured speaker will be Commissioner Diane Linn. Your government needs you Maywood Park residents are strongly encouraged to attend the meetings of the Maywood Park City Council. Without input from citizens, the council will not be able to be as effective. This government is truly for the people, but without knowing the peoples concerns, the council cannot address them effectively. Attend the next city council meeting and take part in your government. Maywood Park City Council meetings for March will be held on Tuesday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 18. The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on the Maywood Park campus of Mt. Hood Community College, 10100 N.E. Prescott St. Meetings are usually located in room 223. Look for the sign in the front window. Helping the Parkrose community The Parkrose Lions Club meets twice a month to discuss fun and effective ways to support the community. They invite interested community members to attend and find out more about how you can be of service to your community while enjoying yourself. To encourage visitors, the Lions will treat first-time guests to a free dinner. What you hear during dinner will keep you coming back! March meetings will be held on Wednesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 19 at the Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant, 13816 N.E. Local rotary clubs invite you to join The Mid-county area has not one but two rotary clubs in the area working to contribute to the community. These clubs help less fortunate community members through their contributions of time and money to local non-profit organizations, including the Habitat for Humanity project. They also provide numerous Rotary scholarships and contribute to International Polio Plus - a Rotary project aimed at eradicating polio. Kiwanis make a difference The Columbia View Kiwanis are a local community organization that helps support local non-profit organizations, such as Loaves and Fishes, Snow-CAP and many others. Wednesday, March 19: Art Demuro from the Portland Historic Landmarks Commission will discuss Historic Preservation: Portlands Current Debate. Wednesday, March 26: Judy Alley, Director of the non-profit organization Snow-CAP will speak. Voting is not enough If you are dissatisfied with the current political process, now is the time to speak up. The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan group dedicated to increasing citizen participation in the government. They also seek to influence public policy through advocacy and education. If you would like to have more of a say in our government, attend the next meeting to find out how you can make a difference. The League of Women Voters meets at 10 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month at the Airport Shilo Inn, 11707 N.E. Airport Way.
