First of its kind in the country (continued) Eric Stephens and Satya Ambrose founded OCOM in 1983 in response to a growing need for comprehensive professional training in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Stephens was one of the graduates who earned a doctoral degree. The next class of 23 doctoral students in OCOMs program matriculated on the same weekend and was in the audience at the commencement ceremony. Three members of the incoming class; Edward Chiu, Nikki Medghalchy and Robert Quinn were awarded fellowships as part of OCOMs commitment to growing and improving the practice of Oriental medicine. The doctoral fellowship was initiated both to support and encourage doctoral level education and to identify future national leaders in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. The mission of the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine is to develop practitioners of Oriental medicine by providing high quality academic and clinical programs, to advance professional knowledge, and to promote the publics understanding of Oriental medicine. The Oregon College of Oriental Medicine is located at 10541 S.E. Cherry Blossom Drive, near Mall 205. Kimberly Schauer is the public relations coordinator for the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine.
