Old fashioned fun
The Gateway Elks offer the chance to help out others in the community, such as youth and veterans, as well as an opportunity to improve the Gateway area. Get results you can see reflected in the improvement of the community. Be a part of something bigger than yourself.

Elk membership also opens up new social doors. The Lodge is constantly having functions of all sorts. From a Crusin’ Car Show to a Valentine Sweetheart Ball, the Elks have it all. Events for August include the annual Hot August Daze celebration and a Hawaiian luau with a Hawaiian Elvis show on Sunday, Aug. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. The regular lodge meetings will continue on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. held at the Gateway Elks Lodge, 711 N.E. 100th Ave.

The Elks will be holding Hot August Daze on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the lodge. Don’t miss this all day neighborhood funfest, open to the public. The morning will begin with a car wash to get the classic cars, custom machines and street rods sparkling like new. Registration for the car show is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Cruise In will be from noon to 5 p.m. The day will also include a dance contest, wheel race, Nuts-to-You contest, live stage performances by rock and roll bands, an era fashion show, and 50’s and 60’s variety acts. And to give you the energy for all of this, there will be a picnic in the park all afternoon. Hamburgers with all the fixings, soda, beer and more will be available.

The Elks offer the public the chance to support groups through recycling. Donate to the paper recycling drop-box in the Lodge parking lot to help the Youth Activities Fund, supporting groups such as our area Boy Scout troops. Donate colored glass and cardboard at the recycle donation area on the north side of the Lodge in the RV parking lot to help support veterans in hospitals. Do your part to ensure a strong community.

If you are interested in being a part of charitable projects and having a lot of fun, consider joining the Elks - the club welcomes both men and women. For more information about the Elks or Hot August Daze, please call 503-255-6535. You can also email secretary@gatewayelks.org or visit www.gatewayelks.org.
