Dinner and inspiration
Portland Christian Schools will host a special dinner celebration on Friday, April 29 at the Portland Airport Embassy Suites Hotel, 7900 N.E. 82nd Ave.

The guest speaker for the evening will be Jim Morris. Morris is a former baseball player who became Major League Baseball’s oldest rookie at the age of 35. His story was made into a movie in 2002 titled, “The Rookie,” and starred actor Dennis Quaid.

Proceeds from this event will go to the Portland Christian Annual Fund, which provides tuition assistance for Portland Christian families. The cost is $30 per person. To buy tickets, contact Doug Cain or Linda Swenson in the Portland Christian Schools business office at 503-256-3960. The last day to purchase tickets is Friday, April 22.

Who can do it? You can do it!
Do you know Gail Volk? How about Dave Luce, Gary Cook or Jerry Martin? Gather up your returnable cans and bottles. Haul them down to Parkrose Middle School, 11800 N.E. Shaver St., on the first Saturday of any month and you will likely see one or all of these busy folks there. They are hard working members of the Parkrose High School Bronco Boosters who appreciate your donations. If you miss them on Saturday, April 2, they will be back on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funds raised benefit students at Parkrose High.

David Douglas graduation gala
The committee responsible for the David Douglas High School All-Night Party has been working with local merchants to come up with unique and tasty fundraising opportunities. Baja Fresh at Mall 205 is generously donating a percentage of sales on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24. Be sure to mention DDHS when you go in.

Every Wednesday night until graduation is DDHS All-Night Party night at Papa John’s Pizza. Pick up a coupon at the high school.

Mother’s Day Hanging Baskets can be ordered through April 15, and will be delivered May 5 at the North Cafeteria from 3 to 7 p.m. If you have questions or would like to place an order call Judy Davis at 503-257-8086.

If your son or daughter will graduate with the class of 2005, you can purchase a page in the Memory Book in his or her honor. A quarter page will cost you $5, a half page is $10 and a full page runs $20. These tributes help offset the cost of making the book.

There will be a drawing for a Traeger Pellet Barbeque donated by Gartner’s Country Meat Market at the All-Night Party. To purchase tickets, please contact Jody Lewis.

Parents of junior and senior students will be needed to help out on the night of the party. Sign-up sheets will be available at the parent-teacher conferences on April 14 and 15.

The next committee meeting will be Monday, May 2 at 7 p.m. at the District Office, 1500 S.E. 130th Ave. The committee welcomes your help.

National credit union youth week
Unitus Community Credit Union has joined forces with the Credit Union National Association to celebrate youth and their financial power this month.

Kicking off Monday, April 18, Unitus will encourage members and potential members to start developing healthy saving habits at an early age. All week long, Unitus will have multiple opportunities for youth to begin building a fit financial future, from an opportunity to win $100 for each $25 deposited into a youth account to the chance to be a “Millionaire for a Week” by winning the interest on a million dollars for a one week.

On Saturday, April 23, the Mall 205 branch, located at 10555 S.E. Washington St., will host an open house in celebration of youth week. There will be giveaways and light refreshments.

“Unitus is committed to starting youth on the path of setting financial goals and saving to reach them,” stated Mall 205 Branch Manager Rebekah Herriges. “The Mall 205 branch looks forward to reaching out to our community’s young people by providing fun and educational activities during National Credit Union Youth Week.”

To round out the line-up of activities, a college-planning seminar will be held free of charge to members and non-members interested in investing money for their child and their child’s future. The seminar at the Mall 205 branch will be held on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:15 p.m.

For more information about Unitus’ upcoming Youth Week, call 800-452-0900, or visit www.unitusccu.com.

Youth Week was established to provide a framework for early financial education and healthy spending habits for youth 18 and under.
