Calendar (continued) ... THINGS TO DO Planetarium sky theater explores the universe Jupiter: Return of the Giant Planet," will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Mt. Hood Community College Planetarium Sky Theater on Monday, April 11. Public Planetarium shows are presented on the second Monday of every month through August. Metro takes you outdoors April is a great time of year to explore the nature of the Portland metropolitan region. Metro offers the following ways: Spring bird walks At Smith and Bybee Wetlands on Saturday, April 9 from 9 to 11a.m. Colorful spring birds join the resident wildlife at Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area in North Portland. Metro naturalist James Davis will lead the tour suitable for adults along with children 10 and older. This is a free event, but advanced registration is required. Call Metro at 503-797-1928. To get there take I-5 to exit 307. Go west on North Marine Drive for 2.2 miles. Turn left at the large brown and white wildlife area sign. Painted turtle walks Saturday April 9 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area is home to the largest population of western painted turtles in the Northwest. Bring the family to see these beautiful reptiles with Metro naturalist James Davis. This free event is suitable for adults and children 5 and older, but advanced registration is required. Call 503-797-1928. Introduction to the language of birds Saturday, April 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This outdoor class at Oxbow Regional Park will explore how birds communicate. You'll learn to interpret bird songs and calls, and how to enhance your outdoor awareness skills. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required. Call 503-797-1928. Smith and Bybee Wetlands paddle trip Saturday, April 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. Join Friends of Smith and Bybee Lakes on a guided paddle trip. Wildflowers of Oxbow Park Sunday, April 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Be introduced to the spring wildflower bloom and take away some identification skills.
