Eat your heart out!

The new and improved Tokyo Coffee Place invites the community to sample their breakfast - you won’t go away hungry!  The Tokyo Coffee Place offers hearty American breakfasts - all breakfast are served with three eggs rather than two, and a full half-pound of sausage is included.  Visit the home of the six and twelve egg omelets!  If you feel up to a challenge, order their special Kahuna Breakfast.  If you can eat this twelve egg breakfast with all the side dishes in under an hour, it is yours free!

Nami and Brent Soesbe took ownership of the Tokyo Coffee Place in December of last year, turning a humble bagel shop into a full-service restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Though the breakfasts are all-American, both Japanese and American lunches and dinners are offered.  The Coffee Place specializes in Japanese curries - treat your taste buds today!

Michael Smith, breakfast cook seven days a week, brings 27 years of experience to his trade, including time as a chef at Cameo West, French’s and The Wagon.  Smith is currently engaged in outdoing himself in an effort to win the Memo’s “Best Breakfast Award”.  Enjoy the fruits of his labor for a great price.  Early Bird specials are held Monday through Friday from 7 to 9 a.m., and include a $2.95 breakfast and all espressos for a dollar.

Welcome this new Parkrose resident, located at 9004 N.E. Sandy Blvd.  The Tokyo Coffee Place is open Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  For more information, call the Tokyo Coffee Place at 503-262-9899.

A refreshing visit to an ancient art

Chen’s Acupuncture and Massage Center offers skilled administration of the 5000 year old art of acupuncture as well as more recent techniques such as massage and herbs.   Fang “Chuck” Chen L.Ac. LMT is a practitioner of the oldest continuously practiced form of medicine: acupuncture.  This ancient art is a painless, safe and effective medical treatment which can improve quality of life as well as reduce the need for drugs and surgeries.  Each acupuncture treatment includes an examination, diagnosis and treatment.  For chronic or acute problems, treatments may be recommended once a week or once every few months.  For an overall health maintenance program, four treatments a year are recommended.

Each treatment is specifically tailored to meet the patient’s needs.  Acupuncture can be used to improve circulation, relax muscles, reduce swelling, and stimulate endorphins to make you feel better.  This ancient art can be used to treat many types of pain, stress, respiratory, digestive cardiovascular, muscle, immune system and gynecological problems.  Acupuncture can also help emotional problems such as depression and can even help you deal with addictions.

Chen is a certified and licensed Massage and Acupuncture Therapist in Oregon and China, National Board Certified and also holds a Masters degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  Before opening his own acupuncture and massage clinic in Parkrose, Chen was employed at an Acupuncture and Massage clinic in Wuzhan, China.

Chen’s dual experiences enable him to blend eastern and western massage techniques to provide an invigorating, relaxing, and nurturing experience.  Chen also uses Chinese herbs in his practice.  These herbs are a combination of animal, plant, and mineral resources which heal the body, mind, and emotions.  A combination of herbs and acupuncture will increase effectiveness of treatments and hasten healing.  In addition to acupuncture and Chinese herbs, Chen’s Acupuncture and Massage Clinic offers acupressure, shiatsu, Swedish massage, and Chinese massage.

The Clinic also offers affordable rates including special student, fixed income, and package rates.  Worker’s Compensation, Medicaid, auto insurance, and some health insurance companies cover all or part of the treatments.  For more information or to make an appointment, call 503-255-2618. You can also visit Chen’s Acupuncture and Massage Clinic in the Argay Clinic Building, 3620 N.E. 122nd Ave, Suite D.  The Clinic is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Treat yourself or a loved one today, and feel the difference!

Enjoy yourself and a good meal

The Venture Inn Tavern and Sports Bar is everything a bar should be - but most aren’t.  Remarkably transformed, the Venture Inn now boasts a bright, comfortable interior, decorated in classic tavern style.  Though Karl Kunberger has only owned the business since January, the tavern now has a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere, with lots to do.

Games ring the outside wall of the tavern.  No matter what your game of choice, you will find it here:  the tavern includes foosball, darts, pool, pinball and even a jukebox.  The full range of Oregon lottery games are also offered including Keno, video poker, Powerball, and more.  For sports fans, the Venture Inn has three TV sets located around the bar so that no matter where you are, you can always watch the game.  Sit down with some buffalo wings or a hamburger while you watch the big screen TV.

In addition to the friendly, helpful staff, the tavern also offers an all new-menu, including their specialty bacon cheeseburger.  Daily food specials are offered, and “happy hour” is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every night: enjoy free popcorn, and $1.50 per pint prices.  Come enjoy a delicious dinner and a game of pool or darts.

The Venture Inn Tavern and Sports Bar also offers special evening events.  Sunday evening is League Darts, with open dart tournaments on Tuesday evenings.  Wednesday evening hosts the pool tournament, and karaoke is coming soon on Wednesday evenings.  Monday night is rib night with a special price.

The new entertainment and atmosphere are due to owner  Karl Kunburger and manager Kim Legg, who have both had  years of experience in managing related ventures.  He was part of the opening team for the Embassy Suites hotel in the Portland Airport and worked there for three and a half years in various management positions, spending his final year as the restaurant and bar manager of Waters Bar and Grill inside the hotel.  Meanwhile, Kim Legg was chosen as Employee of the Year by the John Q. Hammonds Hotels, Inc. - from more than 9,000 employees.

Not only will you have a good time at the Venture Inn, but you will support a local family.  Husband and wife Karl and Brenda Kunberger are both graduates of Barlow High School, and have lived in Argay Terrace for more than 17 years.  Their children, Victoria and Kevin, attend Shaver Elementary and Parkrose Middle Schools.  They are also members of the Parkrose Business Association, which provides innumerable improvements and programs in the Parkrose area.

Stop in tonight to enjoy fun activities and good food.  The Venture Inn Tavern and Sports Bar is open 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. seven days a week, and is located at 141st and  N.E. Sandy Blvd, behind Plaid Pantry.  For more information, please call the Venture Inn at 503-255-7880.
