Creating the floors we walk on Classique Floors and Interiors have been creating Mid-county floors for over twenty years. This local business, member of the Gateway Area Business Association, has created floors all over town, from local businesses such as Loving’s Salon on 102nd Ave. near Glisan St., to the homes of their many residential customers. Lionel and Betty Walklate created the business in 1977. Though they sold the business in 1997 to their daughter, Judith Huck, they still have satisfied customers from previous decades returning. With the new owner has also come changes and improvements. Classique Floors and Interiors has many unique features. One is their focus on using environmentally friendly flooring materials. While they have a wide range of conventional flooring materials, Classique Floors also offers bamboo floors, which are much more sustainable - to grow to the required size, bamboo trees take only a fraction of the time required for an oak tree. Another environmentally friendly alternative is recycled materials, such as ceramic tile flooring created from recycled glass. The installation crew are permanent employees of Classique Floors, rather than sub-contractors as is so often the case. Working this way ensures that an experienced team installs your new floor. These special touches have become the work of an award-winning design and installation team. At the recent 26th Annual Home Improvement and Remodeling show, Classique Floors participated in their first ever home show, winning first prize in the Best One Booth contest. Competing against 150 other entries, Classique’s team used several different materials for the floor of their 10 ft by 10 ft booth, including tumbled marble, as well as adding tumbled slate countertops and several other features. For all your flooring needs, come visit their 4,000 sq. foot showroom and let the on-staff interior designer adapt your flooring to your taste, needs, and pocketbook. Professionals will show you all your options, help you come up with ideas, and discuss the pros and cons with you. Classique Floors and Interiors is located at 14240 S.E. Stark St. For more information, please call Classique Floors and Interiors at 503-255-6775. L. Marie Miller was an advertising illustrator and designer for several prominent Portland advertising agencies for twenty-five years. Now, her award winning work is on display at the Belinki and DuPrey Art Gallery, 1224 S.W. Broadway St. Miller’s work is a natural progression from her life. She was drawn to art from an early age, following the family tradition. Several relatives were artists and photographers, some with interest in depicting Native Americans. Miller is also interested in crows, because of their organized family structure. Not only parents, but aunts, uncles and cousins will fight to the death to protect nestlings. Crows are also seen by some Native American tribes as spirit carriers for those who have crossed to the other side. Miller’s work blends her fascination with birds with her inclination to find humor in the face of the sometimes complicated and intricate balance of everyday life. She uses imagery to express the struggle of balancing life, juggling all the things that need to be done. Her work is a humorous depiction of that balance.
Miller also spends her time teaching both young artists and memory impaired older adults. See her watercolor display “Odd Birds”, as well as the work of others on display today at the Belinki and DuPrey Art Gallery, 1224 S.W. Broadway St. Hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please call the Belinki and DuPrey Art Gallery at 503-227-1242.
Save
time and look beautiful Are you tired of putting on the same make-up day after day, only to wash it off at night and reapply it in the morning? Maybe you are allergic to certain types of make-up. For any of these problems, Leslie Dang, LPCT (Licensed Permanent Color Technician) of Colour Authority has the answer. Whether you want to save time in the morning or just save yourself the trouble of applying make-up every day, permanent makeup could be the answer. The newest addition to Colour Authority’s award-winning staff is Leslie Dang, licensed by the state of Oregon in advanced skin care and micropigmentation (permanent make-up). You can begin with a free consultation, where Dang will show you your options and discuss what kind of permanent make-up will best fit your needs. Dang has been in the beauty industry since 1993, and has been doing permanent cosmetic work since 1997. She loves her work and is great at it, taking her time to make sure the client is both comfortable and satisfied. A session lasts from 1 1/2 to 2 hours, including breaks. Besides applying women’s make-up, Dang also does medicinal tattoos. For example, burn victims can benefit by covering up their scars, or cancer patients with reconstructive breasts can have their areolas colored back in. Leslie is proud of her work because she knows she is making that client feel positive about themself. Don’t put up with make-up that smudges and rubs off. Let Leslie Dang of The Colour Authority help you to wake up ready for whatever the day might bring. This true artist can subtly enhance your own natural beauty.
