On Saturday April 15, 2017, around 12:30 p.m., police responded to the area of 128th Avenue and East Burnside Street on the report of gunfire and one person down on the ground.

When police arrived on the east side of Northeast 128th Avenue, at an entrance to the Menlo Park Elementary School recreation field, they found the victim, 38-year-old Larry Edwin Van Dolah Jr. of St. Helens, Oregon, suffering from gunshot wounds.

St. Helens resident Larry Edwin Van Dolah Jr. was murdered April 15 in east Portland at the entrance to the Menlo Park Elementary recreation field.

After medical personnel arrived, they confirmed Van Dolah was deceased.

Police’s preliminary information indicates there were three shooting suspects, black males, ages 16 to 20 years old, all wearing hooded sweatshirts.

Two of the suspects were wearing blue jeans while the third was wearing dark-colored sweatpants. They were last seen crossing East Burnside Street towards Southeast 129th Avenue.
