Friendly hair care
In November of 1991, Tiffany Nguyen, 19, and her family arrived in the United States from Viet Nam. Tiffany’s family consisted of her mother, two older sisters, and one younger brother. Tiffany’s father was an American veteran who had left Tiffany’s mother when Tiffany was still only a few days old. They had been sponsored to America, and were hoping to find Tiffany’s father. Although she has not found her father, Tiffany has led an exciting life in America.

A few months after arriving, she met a man named David Tran in their local church. They were married a year later, in 1992. Their life together was idyllic, full of love for the next eight years. They had three children together: Yuoan, Vincent, and Angela. After her children were born, Tiffany attended the school now known as Phegens Beauty Academy.

She found that she loved being a hair stylist. “I like to talk with my clients,” said Tiffany. “They are like my family.” She worked first at Great Clips and then at a salon in Tigard, gaining eight years of experience in the skills of a stylist.

Tragically, David died of a heart attack. It came out of nowhere, leaving Tiffany without any means of support. She had some savings, and her family helped her as she struggled with the question of what to do. Finally, she decided to open a full-service salon. Her mother moved in to help with the children, and Tiffany eventually opened her new salon on 122nd Avenue. With loans from her family and her in-laws, Tiffany was able to open Tiffany’s Beauty Salon on May 8, 2002 at 4230 N.E. 122nd Ave. Tiffany says “I work hard, but it’s for my family and for my kids.” After a moment she adds, “and for myself! I love my job.”

When Tiffany says she works hard, she is not exaggerating. Tiffany’s is a full service salon, and she does hair coloring, highlights, waxing, perms, haircuts, facials, and nails. Tiffany personally provides most of her services to her clients. She does have two employees, Daniel and Peter, who do nails. Tiffany provides the rest of the services.

Drop in and find out how friendly Tiffany and her employees are in Tiffany’s Beauty Salon, 4230 N.E. 122nd Ave. The salon is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For more information, please call Tiffany’s Beauty Salon at 503-253-1206.
