Frozen day in black and white... & creates challenges

On Saturday, January 15 we woke to freezing rain, a strong east wind and the streets and sidewalks coated with ice. Here are scenes of some of what was happening in and around Mid-Multnomah County on this gray, cold icy day for the few that ventured out.

Amanda Reynolds with niece Kerri Love walk back to Reynolds’ car after giving up on trying to catch a train downtown. ‘Today is our day together, so I thought we’d do something fun and ride MAX downtown,” said Reynolds. “We’re giving up. It’s bad where we live in Vancouver, but not this bad.”
Brothers Christopher (standing) and Michael Wingo take advantage of the ice on the paths of Ventura Park at Southeast 116th Avenue and Stark Street.
Portland Police Bureau East Precinct officers Gallagher (left) and Holloway are seen on the icy streets at the TriMet Park and Ride lot at the corner of 122nd Avenue and East Burnside Street after answering "man with knife" call on the MAX light rail.
At the Arco gas station on the corner of Northeast 122nd Avenue and Halsey Street, attendant Israel Perez takes his gloves off to free the gas tank door of ice from customer Julian Molina’s car.
