FUNDRAISERS Texas Holdem Tournament Test your card-playing ability in the 205 Earlyriser Kiwanis World Series of Poker-Texas Holdem Tournament on Saturday, February 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. The fundraiser will be held at East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106 Ave., 1 1/2 blocks south of Stark St. The entry fee is $20 per player, and players must register before the event. Players will be allowed to purchase up to $5 in additional chips, if they bring 5 cans of tuna to the event. Registration is through Marty Goplen (Bedz-to-Go) at 503-257-9676. Gift certificates and trophies will be given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers. Proceeds will benefit the East Portland Community Center Playground and the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp. Auction to benefit needy SnowCap, the community service organization that distributes food, clothing and other emergency serves to those living in the East Metro area invite you to a dinner auction on Saturday, February 7 beginning at 6 p.m. The agencys first event held last year raised $25,000. Valentine-A-Grams offer two gifts in one Valentine-A-Grams allow people to give two gifts in one by sending someone special a tasty treat while also supporting seniors in need. Volunteers for Loaves & Fishes Centers, The Meals-On-Wheels People, will deliver Valentine-A-Grams the morning of Friday, Feb. 13 to benefit the 4,000 Portland area seniors served by Loaves & Fishes each day. Each Valentine-A-Gram includes two delicious Cinnabons, a packet of fresh ground Seattles Best Coffee, a cobalt blue travel mug and orange juice from Sun Orchard. The cost is $19.95. The Cinnabon stores at Lloyd Center, Clackamas Town Center and Washington Square donate the cinnamon rolls; Seattles Best Coffee provides the coffee; and Sun Orchard contributes the juice free of charge for this annual fundraiser. With these generous donations, 100 percent of the money raised through the sale of Valentine-A-Grams goes to support the Meals-On-Wheels program. Hundreds of people who volunteer to deliver the Valentine-A-Grams make the event possible each year. Cinnabon owners John Whittaker and Steve Foltz said their support for the 8th annual Valentine-A-Gram fundraiser has become a tradition that illustrates the importance of corporate giving. Both Steve and I, as do all our Cinnabon employees, feel very proud of the opportunity to support an organization as deserving as Loaves & Fishes, Whittaker said. Their efforts toward guaranteeing the personal welfare of the senior citizens in our local communities is invaluable. Pancake breakfast to benefit Meals-On-Wheels program The Cherry Blossom Loaves & Fishes Center will host a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 14. The center is located at 740 S.E. 106th. The cost is $3.50 for adults and $2 for children under 10. The menu includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, ham, juice and coffee. All proceeds go to support Loaves & Fishes Centers, The Meals-On-Wheels People. Singing their way to New York The Parkrose High School A Cappella Choir is hosting a Dessert Night on Thursday, February 26 at 7 p.m. This will be the final fundraiser for their trip to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Enjoy an elegant dessert while you are entertained by solos, duets and small ensembles of the talented members of the Parkrose High School A Cappella Choir, Mount Hood Community College Jazz Band and other select members of the community.
