Light rail bridge construction at Stark & Washington streets
Work begins March 26th
Traffic lanes on SE Stark and Washington streets will be reduced by one or two lanes for about three months due to I-205 Light Rail construction. Bridge construction on the 6.5-mile project will close the lanes of the two streets just east of the I-205 overpass at Stark and Washington. Crews will work between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. beginning Monday, March 26th.
What’s next?
In April pile driving will begin for a bridge at SE Johnson Creek Blvd. A total of seven bridges will be constructed along the I-205 alignment.
About the project:
TriMet’s fifth MAX extension will add light rail between Gateway Transit Center and Clackamas Town Center and to 5th and 6th Avenues in Portland between Union Station and Portland State University. This is the first light rail extension into Clackamas County, it will serve the heart of downtown Portland and the busiest transit destination in the TriMet system PSU.
When this lightrail extension opens in September 2009, it will help revitalize Clackamas Town Center Mall and poise the region for future rail extensions, such as to Milwaukie and Vancouver, Washington.
