Thank you Muchas Gracias

Memo Executive Editor Rich Riegel stopped by the area’s new Muchas Gracias Mexican Food restaurant the other day and wanted to report to Memo readers on the fare.

The restaurant I’m talking about is in the Gateway Shopping Center at 1307 N.E. 102nd Ave. It’s the former Tower Books location.
I’ll confess that I’ve eaten at several other Muchas Gracias locations, in Salem, Ore. and Vancouver, Wash. I also know there’s a location in St. Helens, Ore.

During my life I’ve eaten at a wide range of Mexican food establishments. Taco Bell. Taco Time. The former Poncho’s on Sandy Boulevard in Portland. Taco Del Mar in Portland.

The Original Taco House at Southeast 35th Avenue and Powell Boulevard in Portland. Acapulco’s Gold at Northwest 26th Avenue and Vaughn Street in Portland. Some are OK, others pretty good.

But I have to say that the food at Muchas Gracias is always consistently great and the prices reasonable.

At a couple of the locations in Salem and Vancouver, it’s really more of a drive-thru than a real sit-down restaurant, but I will say that the east Portland location is a spacious and clean place to sit and enjoy.

To be honest, I’ve tried several of the menu items, and they are all great, but I usually order the excellent Oregon Burrito, which has steak, potatoes, cheese and salsa.

Very tasty.
