At its annual clean held Saturday, east Portland’s Argay Neighborhood Association chair Valerie Curry said more than 120 vehicles deposited over 18 tons of household discards, yard debris, scrap metal and tires for disposal or recycling.
ANA chair Curry said the volunteer help they received from members of the Parkrose High School soccer team, led by PHS junior varsity soccer coach Arlo DeLeon, was invaluable.
Also on site helping were members of the Portland Police Bureau Cadets.
The ANA partnered with Metro and Portland’s Bureau of Planning & Sustainability to produce the annual event.

We’ve been receiving notes from Eddie Kunz’ parents, Raymond and Sue, about where he’s playing ball and how he’s doing since being drafted by Major League Baseball’s New York Mets two years ago.
Kunz, a standout athlete at east Portland’s Parkrose High School—majoring in baseball—pitched for the Oregon State Beavers during both NCAA championship runs, and was subsequently drafted by the Mets in the first round.
Currently assigned to the Buffalo Bisons, the Mets’ Triple A farm team, Kunz’s skills are utilized there as a middle reliever.
The e-mail note, from Eddie’s Dad Raymond, follows:

We received a note from Erica Martin, Community Connections Coordinator at
Parkrose High School Community Center in east Portland.
Seniors’ Capstone Projects need public evaluation. This is a very worthwhile volunteer opportunity as it opens a window on how well educators are educating. We volunteered to evaluate last year and found it a rewarding experience we heartily recommend to others. If interested, e-mail Ms. Martin at: erica_martin@parkrose.k12.or.us, she’ll send the registration form and answer your questions.
“Greetings Friends!
As you may already know, we are gearing up for Senior Boards, here at Parkrose High School. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to listen to, and evaluate our Seniors as they present their Capstone Projects.

Darn, those journalists at the Oregonian, they scooped us … again.
There’s a post on Oregon Live about Parkrose High School journalism students participating in the Minority Journalism Camp being held this week at Oregon State University.
Seems that five Parkrose journalism students are participating, today through June 29, at the Minority Journalism Camp being held at Oregon State University.
One of the camp participants, Dominique Blanchard graduated in June. The other four, Kerina Blanchard (Dominique’s sister), Tyree Harris, Evan Huynh, Semear Said and Caesar Santizo will return next fall to the Bronco Blaze staff.
