Food pantry likely to have empty shelves

иконографияThe enduring struggle to help folks in need put food on the family table just got a little tougher at SnowCap Community Charities.

SnowCap Executive Director Judy Alley said the agency has been informed the Oregon Food Bank will be providing substantially less for the coming year. “Almost half the food SnowCap distributes comes from the Oregon Food Bank,” she said. The remainder comes from donations received from east Multnomah County residents and businesses. Alley also said foods provided under the US. Agriculture Department Emergency Food Assistance Program will be reduced by 40 to 50 percent. Support from the Federal Emergency Administration will be eliminated.

SnowCap seeks MLK Day volunteers

We received a note from SnowCap Community Charities in outer east Portland with a special plea for volunteers on the upcoming holiday. SnowCap Community Charities is a philanthropic organization created to provide food, clothing, advocacy and other services to the poor in a large part of east and outer Portland, including Gresham, Wood Village, Troutdale and Fairview.

“Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an ideal occasion to volunteer for community service and SnowCap Community Charities is setting aside Monday, Jan. 18 for special helpers.

Judy Alley, executive director of SnowCap Community Charities in outer east portland  sat down last month for an in-dept interview for Women in Portland Publishing.

WiPP is a group of young women involved in the publishing, writing and graphic arts business in Portland. It is a good read and we recommend it.
