Potholes pervasive on upper Sandy Blvd. in Mid-county
James Mayer had a good story in yesterday’s (Thursday’s) inPortland section of the Oregonian entitled “Potholes are the pits, Portlanders say.”
It talks about new Mayor Sam Adams and his obsession with potholes. Another Adams stunt or is he serious?
Portland has a backlog of street maintenance (30%) that grows larger every year. True, potholes are a small part of the problem, but they are the most visible.
And, last month’s December to Remember storms only exacerbated the situation.
Take Sandy Boulevard in east Portland for instance, from Northeast 82nd to around 47th Avenues to be exact. Let us now call it “Pothole Boulevard.” please, take it and fix it Mayor Adams.
With declining revenues from gas taxes and parking meters, the usual source of revenue for street repairs, the street maintenance problem will get worse as time goes on.
So, here we have a new Mayor, who, in his own words, is “obsessed” with potholes, able to get a pothole in front of his campaign headquarters fixed, but will not be able to find the money to fix the streets and potholes in front of all Portland homes and businesses.
Another, in my opinion, one of many “Adams publicity stunts.” We’ve already had a sampling, and, as the local media is mostly enamored with hizzoner, we will see many more stories about the new “Emperor’s Clothes” in the coming months.
Anyway, as they say, so it goes.
Here is the Pothole Hotline number if you want to report potholes, 503-823-2867.
