Portland Christian to hold Walk-A-Thon on October 19

Students and faculty of Portland Christian Jr./Sr. High School are holding a Walk-A-Thon Friday, October 19, from noon to 3 p.m., at the school in benefit for Carolyn Dowd, head of the English Department and a breast cancer victim.

Walk-A-Thon participants will be taking pledges for every lap completed, with all proceeds given to Dowd helping to defray costs incurred with a fight like this.

Organizers will also accept donations from anyone who chooses not to walk, but would like to help.

Dowd came to Portland Christian High School in 1995. Since that time, she has led the English department to higer academic achievement and excellence from all her students.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, undergoing surgery and chemotherapy at that time, and went into remission. In 2005, she found that the cancer had returned. Since that time she has been waging a fight for her life.

Organizers are seeking volunteers, walkers and donations.

If you’d like to help, or know someone that might, please call or contact Jennifer Pinkham at  503-256-3960, extension 216, or e-mail her at: jennifer.pinkham@pcschools.org
