Parkrose High School mural complete
We received a nice note from Joanne Oleksiak, this summer’s Oregon State Service Corps/AmeriCorps volunteer at Parkrose High school about the recently completed Parkrose High School Community Center mural entitled “Horses Through History & World Cultures.” It follows below.
With help from volunteers artist Larry Kangas installed the final painted panel on Tuesday, August 7th.
This stunning and colorful 1,600 sq ft mural was completed in 35 workdays. To see more of Larry’s murals, visit: muralz.com.
If you haven’t seen it already, take a few minutes to visit Parkrose High School Community Center at 12003 NE Shaver St. to view this beautiful artwork on the east side of the building.
The mural’s theme is based on the high school team mascot, The Broncos. Seeing the mural on foot is essential for searching out the mural’s many visual surprises. See if you can find them.
Grateful appreciation is extended to Portland’s Regional Arts and Culture Council’s Public Art Mural Program for their generous financial support and to the Parkrose School District, SUN Community School at Parkrose, OSSC/AmeriCorps and Sunbelt Rentals for their in-kind contributions.
Matching donations for the mural project are now being accepted in amounts ranging from $25 to $1,000.
All donors will be publicly acknowledged. Those contributing $100 or more will be listed on a permanent plaque to be installed in the fall. Please address checks to: Parkrose High School Community Connections and mail them to: Community Connections Program c/o PHS 12003 NE Shaver St., Portland, OR 97220.
