Parkrose High School gets Bronco mega-mural

Joanne Oleksiak, Program Developer for Oregon State Service Corps, one of two
Americorps programs run by the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross sent us a note about one of her recent projects at Parkrose High School. A transcription of her letter accompanies the artwork below.

Dear friends,

The Parkrose High School mural is here. 20 feet of mural has been installed on the east wall of Parkorse High School. Muralist Larry Kangas (www.muralz.com) has created a vibrant 1600 sq ft frieze entitled “Horses Through History and World Cultures” (Broncos are the PHs mascot).

Completion of the mural’s installation will be in stages, with the final sections scheduled to be placed on the wall during the first week of August, 2007.

A mural dedication party is planned for Saturday, July 28th, from noon to 2 p.m. at
Parkrose High School Community Center at NE 120th and Shaver Street.

You are invited to view the mural, meet artist Larry Kangas, the mural crew and celebrate with the Parkrose community on that day.

Food, music and a few surprises will be involved.

Join us July 28 in thanking the following project supporters:
Portland Regional Arts & Culture Council’s Public Art Murals Program, the Parkrose School District & PHS staff, Sunbelt Rentals, SUN Community School-Portland Parks and Recreation, Oregon State Service Corps/AmeriCorps, Woodland Park and Parkrose Neighborhood Associations.

To volunteer in the mural studio; openings for students are still available please apply with me.
