Parkrose, Argay new crime prevention coordinator introduces herself

New personnel arrives with the realigning of Portland’s police precincts from five to three. Recently, we received an e-mail letter of introduction from Mary Tompkins, the new crime prevention coordinator for the Parkrose and Argay Neighborhood Associations of east Portland, it follows.

“Hello: Argay, Beaumont-Wilshire, Hollywood, Parkrose, Rose City Park, and Roseway neighborhood association representatives.

“I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all of you, as your new Crime Prevention Coordinator. Due to the recent Police Bureau precinct restructuring, I have been given this wonderful opportunity to work with all of you.

“My name is Mary Tompkins, M.S. and I have been working as a Crime Prevention Coordinator with the City of Portland, Office of Neighborhood Involvement since 2006. I am a graduate of Portland State University, with degrees in Criminal Justice (B.S.) and Conflict Resolution (M.S.) I have over 20 years of experience in law enforcement, social services, and facilitation. I have worked for the Multnomah County Sheriffs Office for 9 years and have a wealth of experience dealing with incarcerated persons and their children.

“I previously worked at Self Enhancement Inc., and have experience working with African-American families and family preservation. I am currently a board member with Ceasefire Oregon Board of Education. Ceasefire Oregon has previously hosted gun turn in events in the following neighborhoods: Concordia, Sullivan’s Gulch, and Lents. Most recently, the gun turn in event hosted by Lents Neighborhood Association involved joint collaboration with KPTV (as our media outlet) and the Portland Police Bureau. The turn in event was quite a success and I am hopeful through future fundraising that Ceasefire Oregon will be able to assist in the sponsorship of a gun turn in event for the Cully Neighborhood Association.

“I am looking forward to meeting with you this summer at your neighborhood association meetings and discussing your ideas surrounding crime prevention in your neighborhood areas. National Night Out will take place on August 4, this year and we are hoping for a big turn out for parties celebrating this event.

“Please contact me, providing the date and time in which I can formally introduce myself at your neighborhood association meeting. I look forward to working for your neighborhoods and providing crime prevention services.”

Sincerely,
Mary Tompkins,
M.S. Crime Prevention Program Coordinator
