Mid-county Memo June edition recap
A recap, with links, to the online version of the June issue of the Mid-county Memo follows:
June’s front page says Elmer’s Restaurants in affiliation with the Rose Festival Association, are bringing back the popular Rose Meal. Every day during the 2010 Rose Festival celebration — May 22 through June 13 — Elmer’s Restaurants will donate 20 percent of all proceeds from their special Rose Meal menu in support of the Portland Rose Festival Foundation.
Also on the front page is Lee Perlman’s report on last month’s Portland Plan workshop at David Douglas High School in outer east Portland.
Inside the issue, Memo reporter Amber McKenna has three stories this month. Her first is about the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office annual memorial ceremony. The second, a report on the Russ Lemmon Friendship Dinner annually held in the American Legion Portland Post No. 1′s banquet hall. Her third story for the June issue is about the 10-year anniversary of the Gateway Clinic.
Memo reporter Heather Hill reports on the new community garden at Fir Ridge Campus in the David Douglas School District, part of the new Community Learning Center at FRC.
The Fir Ridge Community Learning Center was formed thanks to a 21st Century Learning Center Grant, a federal grant that supports the creation of community centers to provide after-school academics, particularly to students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools.
Veteran beat reporter Lee Perlman turns in his monthly “Perlman’s Potpourri,” news items from across the Gateway and Parkrose neighborhoods of Mid-Multnomah County along with stories about Bill Walker, the new (temporary) commander, elevated last month after East Precinct Commander Mike Reese became Portland’s newest police chief, and his story about the attempt to simplify Portland’s confusing and myriad forest of tree regulations.
Tim Curran’s story about monthly luncheons the Parkrose Class of 1952 has some familiar names in it.
And finally, June’s Departments: Memo Calendar, Memo Pad, Business Memos columns and the monthly Loaves & Fishes menu.
