Mid-county Farmland to Become Park
The 15.7 acre Beech Property is located next to Shaver Elementary School. Portland Parks & Recreation purchased the parcels in 1984 and 1999 from the Garre family as part of a long-range vision to provide a large neighborhood park to serve this part of Mid-Multnomah County.
The property has been land banked since its purchase and the Garres continued farming on the site until May.
The areas inside the yellow lines are the two parcels slated to become a park.
At a meeting recently held at Shaver the interim management plan for the future park was discussed.
Sometime in 2008 (probably the latter half) the design process for the new park will begin. A collaborative effort between the neighborhood and Parks & Recreation, the final design will reflect recreation needs and community priorities according to Doug Brenner, East Portland Zone Manager (503-823-5255).
