It’s Spaghetti and Meatball time at St. Rita again

In the March 2007 issue we published a display advertisement for the annual St. Rita Spagehtti and Meatball Dinner. Our display advertisment was wrong in regards to the date and the price. The information below, also in the March issue, is correct. We regret the error.

The 70th annual St. Rita Spaghetti and Meatball Dinner, a Northeast Portland tradition, will be Sunday, April 1 from noon to 6 p.m. in the parish hall at 10029 N.E. Prescott St. in outer east portland

Begun as a special event and fundraiser in 1937 by nine Italian women, the dinner remains a classic, successful beyond the dreams of those early ladies. Today their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as current and past church members, volunteer for the annual event.

Parishioners make approximately 10,000 meatballs and 560 gallons of sauce each year from recipes handed down over the years.

Some 2,000 plus guests enjoy their dinners in the dining room that seats 400. Take-out is available as well. The Italian spaghetti dinner with meat sauce, meatballs, tossed green salad, bread, beverage and desserts is priced at $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $5 for children aged 5 – 10 years. Children 4 and under are served free. Wine and beer are available for purchase.
