Improvements to East Portland’s 82nd Avenue to be outlined

The city of Portland Office of Transportation is in the final stages of developing what it’s calling the “82nd Avenue of Roses High Crash Corridor Transportation Safety Action Plan.” Three open houses set within the next month will outline the plan’s proposed safety improvements.

Basically, the improvements will include changes in traffic engineering, public education and bolstering safety tools. They include several possible options, including new corner sidewalk curb ramps, pedestrian median refuge islands, constructing sidewalks where they don’t currently exist, and studying and implementing treatment for several high-crash intersections.

Also proposed are direct and indirect law enforcement plans to curb jaywalking, speeding, aggressive driving and wrong-way bicycle riding.

The first open house is set for Thursday, Nov. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Montavilla Community Center’s Community Room, 8219 N.E. Glisan St. Next meeting is set for Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 3618 S.E. 79th Ave. And the third meeting, set for Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Central Northeast Neighbors, 4415 N.E. 87th Ave.
