Free swim lessons, open swims as public pools open Monday
Portland Parks & Recreation opens outdoor pools for the summer this Monday, June 22. Free swim lessons and free open swims are also offered as part of PP&R’s “Summer Free for All”
The outdoor pools — open through August — are located at these parks or schools: Creston, Grant, Montavilla (on Northeast 82nd Avenue at Glisan Street in east Portland), Peninsula, Pier, Sellwood, and Wilson.
In addition, PP&R operates six indoor, year-round pools: Buckman, Columbia, East Portland Community Center, Matt Dishman Community Center, Mt. Scott Community Center, and Southwest Community Center.
PP&R starts the summer with its traditional five days (Monday, June 22-Friday, June 26), of free swim lessons. To register, visit your neighborhood pool on Saturday, June 20, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. No online registration is available; you must register in person.
PP&R offers several free open play swim times throughout the summer. Friday afternoons are Free Swim Time at Montavilla Pool on Northeast 82nd Avenue at Glisan Street, beginning Friday, June 26 from 1-2:30 p.m. and running every Friday through September 4.
In addition, Teen Swim Summer Kick-Off Parties will be held at four outdoor pools in late June (Montavilla Pool holds its TSKOP Friday, June 26). For the dates and times of all the free swim events and all the free events and programs offered this summer, click here.
