East Portland Graffiti awareness class slated Tuesday, Jan. 8

A graffiti awareness class is set for Tuesday, Jan. 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the offices of Central Northeast Neighbors, 4415 N.E. 87th Ave. The public is invited to attend. The Memo strongly urges its readers to attend this educational meeting.

The event is hosted by two city of Portland entities, the Office of Neighborhood Involvement and Central Northeast Neighbors. Marcia Dennis, graffiti prevention coordinator with ONI, will teach the graffiti awareness class.

Those attending the graffiti awareness class will learn how to identify, photograph, report and remove graffiti properly. In addition, those attending will learn what graffiti says and means, and what can be done about it.

In a flyer being distributed by class hosts, two other challenging questions are also asked: Is it graffiti? Or is it art?

Those wishing to attend are asked to register with Jenni Bernheisel, crime prevention coordinator with CNN, by either calling her directly at 503-823-2781 or e-mailing jenni.bernheisel@ci.portland.or.us
