East Precinct and Transit Police Division officers responded to the report of a disturbance on the platform at the 82nd Avenue MAX Station involving a possible gunshot, police said.

Officers arrived in the area and contacted witnesses who described a disturbance between two young men and that one of them fired at least one shot from a handgun.

Witnesses described the suspect with the gun as a Hispanic or Asian male, 15-17 years old, medium build, wearing a black baseball cap, a black bandana, a black and gray jacket, and a black backpack.

Residents of the Metro region are invited to view and comment on the upcoming four-year schedule of federal transportation investments in the Portland area. The four-year schedule, known as the 2012-2015 Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program, encompasses all federal spending on transportation, including highways, public transit, pedestrian and bike projects in the three-county metropolitan area. Public comments are being accepted through noon, Monday, Feb. 13.

The MTIP includes all federally funded transportation projects in the Portland metropolitan area, including projects planned by TriMet, the Oregon Department of Transportation and local agencies receiving federal funds allocated by Metro.

TriMet is increasing fares by 5 cents effective Sept. 1. The MAX Blue Line and twenty-five bus lines will see improved service with added trips to relieve crowding and scheduling improvements.

Implemented in response to customer requests, and due to the success of the pilot program, TriMet is introducing a 30-day rolling pass. Currently, the new pass is only available only at the Pioneer Courthouse Square ticket office. The current monthly pass is valid from the first day of the month through the last day of the month and can be purchased after the 20th of the previous month up until the start of the new month. The new pass can be purchased any time and roll 30 days forward. The new 30-day rolling pass joins existing 7-day and 14-day rolling passes. All passes are available at the TriMet Ticket Office at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

TriMet’s MAX Red Line to Portland International Airport opened Sept. 10, 2001, what happened the next day made its opening ironic and insignificant in the big picture. The attacks seriously wounded the airline industry, consequently the new rail line to the airport, the first train-to-plane connection on the West Coast.
