Argay Park, Northeast 141st Avenue and Failing Street has seen a recent rash of graffiti. Thanks to the Portland Parks & Recreation Maintenance bureau, the recently defaced Argay Off-Leash Area sign was cleaned off.

However, the Argay Park sign was only cleaned off a little and the gang tag, “MVL” remains on a private property owner’s backyard fence next to the park’s side entrance. The tags are associated with the Sureños. Spanish for Southerners, Sureños originated in the barrios of Southern California. A group of Mexican American street gangs, there are hundreds of Sureño gangs in California— Oregon and Washington now also—each with its own street identity.
