This month’s edition has stories about: the Senior Prom held at Care Center East; the Parkrose High School bond vote in May; a round up of east Portland high school winter activities; Bradford’s Sports Lounge — formerly the Candy Store; the Portland Planning and Sustainability Commission meeting where activists demanded action on the many plans to make life better in east Portland; the Portland Plan Fair held last month at Mid-county’s Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization and the Portland Airport Master Plan’s final approval from the city .

Due to the risk of snow tonight, the David Douglas Dad’s Club is postponing its Father/Daughter Banquet. The banquet is rescheduled for Wednesday, March 2.

Tickets continue to be available at the Athletic/Activities office at David Douglas High School  for $12.50 each.

Wednesday, Feb. 16 is the immunization exclusion day at David Douglas School District schools. A notice by the school district follows with a link to their Web site.

Don’t let your child be excluded! Exclusion Day for students without up-to-date immunizations is Wednesday, February 16, 2011. We ask that any parent or guardian who is aware of their child needing immunizations to schedule an appointment for them as soon as possible. Students can obtain immunizations either through their primary care provider, or at any of the immunization clinics offered.

A news release from the Rose Festival announcing the 64 students — 63 Seniors and two Juniors — vying to become the 2011 Queen of Rosaria follows. The list includes five students from David Douglas and Madison with four from Parkrose.

A strong showing by students for the Metro area schools highlighted the first day of judging for the 2011 Rose Festival Court, Saturday February 5 at the Rose Festival Court Headquarters in the Lloyd Center. Overall 132 students participated in the first round speech and interview process, and 64 were selected to represent their school in the second round. The second judging session takes place February 26 to determine the final fifteen princesses, from which the 2011 Rose Festival Queen will be chosen.

Portland Plan meeting at David Douglas today

A media advisory (new name for  press release) from Bureau of Planning & Sustainability Eden Dabbs about the Portland Plan’s Phase Two workshop at David Douglas High School follows:

“WHAT: Portland residents are invited to participate in the Portland Plan Phase Two Community Workshops all over town!

“Featuring door prizes, refreshments and live music, the East Portland Plan workshop will be Saturday, May 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at David Douglas High School. Childcare will be provided.

The East Portland Action Plan Committee meets at David Douglas School District Board Room,  1500 S.E. 130th Avenue from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
