Curry’s missive:
FACTOIDS:
– Argay’s National Night Out Against Crime — an estimated 475 in attendance on August 7, was highly successful.
– The “skydiving granny,” eighty-eight-year-old Evelyn Benson, participated as SpongeBob SquarePants. (This is one fun-loving lady who says she’s going to skydive again on her 90th birthday.)
– Mike Dawson, manager of the Parkrose Burgerville, 4229 NE 122nd Ave., brought his crew who cooked and helped serve cheeseburgers non-stop.
– Target stores made a considerable contribution and in addition SENT SIX (6)!! TARGET STORE EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEERS who helped keep the food lines moving. (I had no idea that was going to happen–previously they had suggested two employees would be sent to help out.)
– East Precinct’s Commander Mike Crebs and numerous police officers
attended, as did Fire Station 2 from 4800 NE 122nd, who conducted “tours” of their fire truck.
– The popular Kooltones (classic soft rock band) performed without
charge for the fifth consecutive year.
– Shaver Elementary’s SUN School Coordinator Helen Vank acted as Argay Neighborhood Association’s Volunteer Coordinator for this event. Most of the 40+ volunteers were drafted by Helen, who also supervised the food service operation. She also arranged attendance by the School’s lending library.
– Shaver Elementary School principal Cindy Bartman and her team supervised children’s games.
