ACE Academy invites you to barbecue
Recently, we received an e-mail from ACE Academy Director Michael Taylor, inviting us to their barbecue welcoming parents, staff and patrons and the all-new charter high school in east Portland inviting us to their barbecue welcoming students, parents, staff and patrons.
The Academy for Architecture, Construction & Engineering, or ACE Academy, is a public charter school combining technical and academic education for high school juniors and seniors.
Taylor’s note follows:
We are moving along with the opening of our school. The support and enthusiasm for our projected program has been great. We currently have 115 students enrolled for September; another 10 in the application process and are adding students each day. In addition to students from our five High School partners we have students for Sandy High School, Connections Academy and Home School students. Our incoming students have GPS’s from 4.0 to 1.8 but all are eager to join us. The enrollment interests are evenly split among Architecture, Construction and Engineering so we have achieved an balance of program interest. We currently have 15% females and continue to encourage our girls to look to careers in Architecture, Engineering and the trades.
We have just completed the hiring process and have an excellent group of teachers ready to launch ACE Academy. We had over 160 applications for our teaching positions and each successful candidate went through a three step interview process along with a complete reference check. Attached are profiles of our staff.
On May 8th from 5 to 7:30 p.m. we will welcome our students, parents and staff to ACE Academy. We are planning an evening of tours, student orientation, meeting and greeting and Barbecue. All are welcome.
ACE Academy is at 4222 NE 158th Ave. To learn more about this new east Portland school visit the Web site: www.acecharterschool.org
